Cranium Cadoo from Argos
The original Cranium isn't really suitable for kids, due to too many cultural references that would be lost on them. Cranium Cadoo retains the essence of the original but works well with the target age range of 7 and older. The rules are a bit simpler, but there is still just as much variety in the question cards and types of activity. Instead of working around a trail, players try and play "4-in-a-row" with their funky-shaped tokens, but with potentially interesting strategic twists thanks to the combo question cards where two players' tokens go down on one square. Answers are checked using special coloured glasses, but the text can sometimes be a little fiddly to read.
Good points:
  • Fun (and often very silly) activities
  • Nicely made playing pieces
  • Simple-to-follow rules
  • Reasonable playing time
  • Especially good value when Argos blow it out half price
Bad points:
  • Could have included a few more question cards
  • Coloured glasses are fun but not always very effective
