Flymo Compact 350 - Hover Collect Mower from Argos
We've had one of these for several years, since we moved house and acquired a garden. It's unexceptional but works well enough and hasn't given any trouble at all - despite us inevitably letting the grass grow too long... I understand some models now compress the grass cuttings they collect, but this one just collects them. Mind you, with a garden on a fair slope as ours is, it gets quite heavy enough (despite being described as lightweight) by the time it's ready to empty. It gunges up with matted grass underneath rather easily but is quite easy to clean when it does. Ideal for the smaller garden!
Good points:
  • Good value for money (and often on special offer)
  • Leaves very little behind for raking up
  • Decent cable length (but don't forget to get a circuit breaker)
  • Hard-wearing metal blade (many seem to use plastic these days!)
Bad points:
  • Gunges up quite easily, losing hover somewhat when it does
  • Folding mechanism not always easy to operate
